Mawuli Mel Davis leads the firms Criminal Defense and Trial Sections, which includes representing persons charged with crimes in state and federal courts throughout Georgia. Attorney Davis represents both adults and juveniles charged with felonies and misdemeanors. Attorney Davis is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Attorney Davis attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, where he played varsity basketball and earned a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. Attorney Davis served in the United States Navy as an officer for nearly ten years. He earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Bowie State University while on active duty in Rota, Spain. Attorney Davis is a graduate of Georgia State University College of Law, where he was recognized in Whos Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and awarded the Eleanor Norton Holmes/Thurgood Marshall Award for his outstanding contribution as a law student. He is also the recipient of the Georgia State University Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Torch of Peace. Attorney Davis served on the Executive Board for the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) and as President of GSU BLSA.
Attorney Davis has been dubbed as The Liberation Lawyer because of his reputation as an activist attorney willing to fight injustice whenever and wherever it exists. Attorney Davis was selected by and featured in the Fulton County Daily Reporter as one of just 15 lawyers under 40 in the state of Georgia that are On the Rise. He has also been featured in Rolling Out newspaper as an attorney who is an advocate in and out of the courtroom. Attorney Davis has represented community activists engaged in protest or civil disobedience, including organizers fighting for the homeless who were arrested during protests at Atlantas City Hall. Attorney Davis has also been involved in the representation of public figures, entertainers, athletes, and their family members, including being a member of the appeals team for former Mayor of Atlanta, Bill Campbell.
Attorney Davis organizing efforts have ranged from working with gang members in Chicago to establish a summer basketball league to participating in the United Nations World Conference Against Racism in Durban, South Africa. Attorney Davis is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Incorporated. Attorney Davis is an active member of Sankofa United Church of Christ and his diverse life experiences have been fundamental in shaping his practice of law.
